From a very young age, children show deep empathy. They don’t just see an animal — they see a friend. They hurt when a dog is hurt, and smile when a kitten purrs. Why? Because children often have what adults lose: an open heart.
Children’s brains respond strongly to crying, fear, and suffering.
A stray kitten is a tiny friend, not “just a street cat”.
Kids don’t think “what will others say?” — they just want to help.
Animals don’t lie. Children sense that. When a dog responds with kindness, it’s a true friendship.
but because it feels natural and right. And we, as adults, can learn from them.
